Vuelta Cicloturista a Ibiza Campagnolo

The Vuelta Cicloturista a Ibiza is one of the few stage events on the Spanish cyclosportive calendar. Based in Sant Antoni de Portmany, it spreads three days of riding across the island’s interior and coast at a time of year, October, when Ibiza recovers its calm and offers ideal temperatures for cycling.

A stage format with timed sectors

The event combines two road stages, of about 90 and 64 kilometres, and a short individual time trial on the last day. It is not a race, but each stage includes two timed sectors on climbs or specific segments: the sum of those times and the time trial decides the general classification by age category.

Three days to discover the island by bike

The route links Santa Agnès, Sant Mateu, the north of Sant Joan and the west-coast viewpoints, with short but steep climbs. Between stages there is time for the beach, the food and the quiet atmosphere of the Ibizan autumn.

Sant Antoni as base camp

Sant Antoni holds the accommodation, the start and the finish for all three days, which avoids driving each morning. Discover more events in Baleares.

Your 360 Pack

Everything you need to prepare for this event, in one place.

Vuelta a Ibiza registration

Registration is handled on the official website and covers all three days, feed stations and finish services. Numbers are limited and sell out before summer.

Tips

  • Book your spot as soon as it opens: some years the event has a waiting list
  • State your age category correctly for the timed-sector classification

Where to stay in Sant Antoni

Sant Antoni de Portmany is the logistics base: hotels next to the start and low-season prices in October. It is the easiest way to avoid driving each morning.

Tips

  • Pick a hotel within a kilometre of the start area
  • Many of the island's cycling hotels offer a workshop and bike storage

Bike gear for three days of sectors

Ibiza's roads are in good condition, but three days back to back means having the bike dialled to avoid losing time on support between stages.

Tips

  • Bring basic spares to fix things yourself between stages
  • Check the drivetrain each night

Technical clothing for October in Ibiza

In October the mornings are mild and the afternoons warm. It is rarely cold, but a thin gilet for the first ramps and the sea breeze is useful.

Tips

  • Comfortable bib shorts for three days running: the contact area suffers
  • A packable gilet for the morning start

Nutrition for a stage race

Here it matters as much to eat during the stage as to refuel between them. Arriving well recovered at day two makes the difference in the timed sectors.

Tips

  • Take carbs and protein within 30 minutes of each stage
  • Hydrate well the afternoon before the time trial

Power meter for the timed sectors

The overall is decided on short, intense segments. A power meter lets you pace each sector and avoid burning out on the first of the stage.

Tips

  • Know each sector's duration in advance and plan the effort
  • Load the three days' tracks onto your bike computer

Sunglasses for the Mediterranean light

The Ibiza sun in October is still strong and the light off the sea is dazzling. A polarised or high-category lens is the most comfortable choice.

Tips

  • A category 3 lens for the middle of the day

How to get to Ibiza with your bike

Ibiza airport connects with the whole of Spain. The bike travels as special luggage and a hard case is the safest way to get it there in one piece.

Tips

  • Book the bike case in advance: there is a per-flight limit
  • If you would rather keep it simple, rent a high-end bike on the island

Bike rental in Ibiza

Several shops on the island have a recent high-end road fleet with electronic groupsets. It is a convenient alternative to travelling with your own bike.

Tips

  • Reserve the size and model weeks ahead for October
  • Bring your own pedals, saddle and bike computer to feel at home

Licence and insurance

You need a valid racing licence or the insurance the organisers offer for all three days when you complete your entry.

Tips

  • Racing licence or event insurance required
