Andalucía Bike Race by Garmin
With more than 15 editions behind it, the Andalucía Bike Race by Garmin is one of Europe’s most prestigious stage MTB races, holding UCI Hors Catégorie status. Its travelling route through Granada, Jaén and Córdoba combines the iconic climbs of Sierra Nevada, the technical, rocky sections of the Jaén mountains, and the fast, flowing singletracks around Córdoba, in a 6-consecutive-stage format that tests both fitness and daily recovery.
Six stages, three provinces
The route splits into three blocks of two stages each: Granada opens the week with a 64 km line stage and a shorter individual time trial; Jaén brings the most technical and demanding section, with rocky tracks and gradients up to 10%; and Córdoba closes with fast singletracks and an explosive finale. In total, more than 300 km and around 8,400 m of elevation gain over 6 days. Riders who don’t want to take on the full week can register for just one of the three 2-stage blocks.
A UCI race with an international atmosphere
The combination of UCI HC status and a route across three different provinces draws an international peloton every year. Changing venue each day calls for careful logistics: the organization transfers gear from one site to the next, but every rider has to manage their own recovery between stages, which becomes critical from the fourth day onward as accumulated fatigue sets in.
Granada, Jaén and Córdoba beyond the race
All three venues are World Heritage Sites: the Alhambra in Granada, the Renaissance ensemble of Úbeda and Baeza in Jaén, and the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba. Using the transfer days between stages to visit each city is part of the experience. Discover more events in the region in Andalusia.

Andalucía Bike Race 2027 registration
You can sign up for the full 6-stage route or for just one of the three 2-stage blocks (Granada, Jaén or Córdoba). Places are limited (800 in recent editions) and sell out weeks before the event.
Tips
- Book early: in previous editions places sold out before registration closed
- The block format lets you try the race without committing to all 6 stages
Where to stay during the Andalucía Bike Race
As a multi-stage race with a travelling caravan between Granada, Jaén and Córdoba, it's worth booking different accommodation at each venue or looking at the organization's accommodation packages.
Tips
- Check whether your category includes bag transfer between venues, very useful in a 6-day race
Bike gear for the Andalucía Bike Race
The technical Jaén sections and Sierra Nevada climbs demand a reliable MTB, with grippy tires and a comfortable frame for 6 consecutive days of racing.
Guides to get you ready
Tips
- Bring a spare tube/tubeless kit: Jaén's rocky sections are tough on rims
MTB rental in Granada
If you're flying into Granada, renting a full-suspension MTB avoids checking in a bike and simplifies logistics for a 6-stage race across three provinces.
Tips
- Book your size in advance: demand is high during race week
Technical clothing for the Andalucía Bike Race
Late February can bring below-freezing mornings in Sierra Nevada, while midday sun already bites in Córdoba; the key is coping with both extremes in the same week.

Tips
- Keep a light windproof layer for the cold starts in Granada and Jaén
Nutrition for the Andalucía Bike Race
Six consecutive stages demand a recovery strategy between days that's as important as in-race nutrition; accumulated fatigue is the main enemy from stage 4 onward.

Tips
- Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén airport is 20 minutes from downtown Granada
Car rental for the Andalucía Bike Race
Driving between the three venues yourself, even if the organization moves your gear, makes it easier to carry extra luggage and plan rest days between blocks.
Tips
- A car with a large boot helps if you race the full 6-stage format with spares and clothing for the whole week
Sports insurance for the Andalucía Bike Race
As a multi-day UCI race, the organization requires a federation licence or a valid one-day insurance covering every stage you take part in.
Tips
- Check that your one-day insurance covers all 6 days if you register for the full route
Body care for the Andalucía Bike Race
With almost 8,500 m of elevation gain over 6 days, daily muscle recovery and sun protection for the midday Córdoba stages matter as much as prior training.

Components for the Andalucía Bike Race
With almost 8,500 m of climbing spread over 6 stages, fitting an easier cassette ratio saves your legs on the Sierra Nevada climbs, while keeping your power under control stops you from overcooking effort in the first half of the week.

Tips
- Set a wattage cap for stages 1 and 2: accumulated fatigue takes its toll from stage 4 onward
- Check chain wear before you travel; a high-end cassette performs worse on a worn drivetrain
Sunglasses for the Andalucía Bike Race
Six days chaining together sun in Granada, Jaén and Córdoba in the middle of February call for versatile sunglasses that protect on Jaén's dusty sections as well as through the midday hours in Córdoba.
