Madrid-Segovia MTB

The Madrid-Segovia MTB is one of the most unusual crossings on the Spanish cyclosportive calendar: a mountain bike ultramarathon connecting two cities, starting in the capital and finishing at the foot of Segovia’s Roman Aqueduct. There’s no short course or shortcut option: the 117 km is a single route that requires a full crossing of the Sierra de Guadarrama in the saddle.

A 117-kilometer route between Madrid and Segovia

The route, with 2,600 m of accumulated climbing, combines forest tracks, technical singletrack and high-mountain sections above 1,800 meters of altitude before descending toward the Segovia plateau. The start is in central Madrid, and the organization provides aid and feed stations along the route, but the physical and technical demands make it an event recommended only for riders experienced in long-distance biking. Working out how to calculate your bike’s gear ratio beforehand helps you pick a cassette that keeps your legs fresh for the final stretch into Segovia.

A classic spring fixture in Madrid

With several editions already held, the Madrid-Segovia MTB has become a benchmark for those seeking an ultra-endurance challenge near the capital without having to travel to another region. Linking two historically significant cities adds a special appeal: riders leave one capital and arrive, literally, beneath a Roman monument.

Segovia beyond the march

Segovia’s Aqueduct, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985, crowns the finish and deserves an unhurried visit after the effort, along with the Alcázar and the city’s Gothic Cathedral. Segovia’s cuisine, with roast suckling pig as its flagship dish, is the perfect reward after 117 km of MTB. Discover more events in the region in Madrid.
