Terra de Remences · Energy Tools

With more than 25 editions behind it, Terra de Remences is one of the best-established cyclosportive events in the Girona Garrotxa. It starts in Sant Esteve d’en Bas and rides through the historic territory of the remença peasants, the medieval peasant revolt the event is named after, across a volcanic landscape unique in Europe.

A route with two distances

The event offers two options:

  • 175K: the full route, with 2,600 meters of accumulated elevation gain and the Condreu, Collcreu de Canes and Bac climbs as the decisive sections
  • 100K: a shorter version, with 1,280 meters of climbing, that keeps part of the most demanding route

Both routes are available in GPX and on platforms like Strava and Wikiloc, with feed stations spread along the course.

The volcanic landscape of La Garrotxa

Few areas of Catalonia offer such a distinctive setting as La Garrotxa, with its volcanic cones, beech forests and stone villages. The Collcreu de Canes and Bac sections cross this protected Natural Park landscape, making Terra de Remences one of the most scenic events on the Catalan calendar.

Sant Esteve d’en Bas and the Vall d’en Bas beyond the ride

The Vall d’en Bas is one of the best-preserved agricultural areas of Girona, with traditional farmhouses and deep-rooted local cuisine. Using the weekend to visit Olot, just ten minutes away, and its modernist old town, rounds out the experience beyond the bike. Discover more events in the region in Catalonia.

Terra de Remences 2026 registration

Spots are capped at 2,200 riders and fees rise in tiers, so it pays to register early to get the lowest price.

Tips

  • Register in the first price tier, before the first 500 spots sell out
  • If you don't have a federative licence, add the one-day insurance during registration

Where to stay for Terra de Remences

Sant Esteve d'en Bas is a small village in the Vall d'en Bas, so accommodation is limited — it's worth also checking Olot, just ten minutes away by car.

Tips

  • Book in Olot if you can't find anything in Sant Esteve d'en Bas
  • Bib pickup is the afternoon before: arriving on Friday avoids an early rush

Bike gear for Terra de Remences

The Condreu, Collcreu de Canes and Bac climbs demand comfortable gearing to string together nearly 2,600 meters of climbing on the long route.

Tips

  • Fit a wide cassette for the Collcreu de Canes ramps
  • Check brake pad wear: there are long, technical descents

Bike rental in La Garrotxa

If you're travelling without your own bike, the most practical option is renting one in Girona or Olot before heading to Sant Esteve d'en Bas.

Tips

  • Book the rental in advance, especially on a May weekend

Technical clothing for Terra de Remences

May in La Garrotxa can start cool early in the morning and warm up considerably by midday, with fog common in the volcanic valleys.

Tips

  • Bring a packable windproof gilet for the cold start
  • A breathable jersey helps in the final hours, when the heat picks up

Nutrition for Terra de Remences

The long route exceeds five hours of continuous effort, so it's worth planning around the official feed stations on the course.

Tips

  • Carry your own gels to supplement the official feed stations
  • Hydrate well before the Collcreu de Canes and Bac sections

Components for the Terra de Remences

With the Condreu, Collcreu de Canes and Bac climbs spread over 175 km, riding with the GPX loaded and a cassette with enough range helps manage your effort through the volcanic landscape of La Garrotxa.

Tips

  • Load the official GPX track onto your bike computer before leaving Sant Esteve d'en Bas
  • A wide-range cassette is welcome on the three climbs of the long route

Sunglasses for the Terra de Remences
