Marcha Cicloturista La Indomable

La Indomable has grown edition after edition into one of the most recognizable gravel and MTB events in southern Spain, with routes crossing the Alpujarras of Almería and Granada from Berja. Its name lives up to the terrain: dirt tracks, technical trails and constant elevation change through one of Andalusia’s most rugged mountain landscapes.

A route of 96 or 51 kilometers

The ride offers two distances — 96 and 51 km — combining forest tracks, mountain trails and some tarmac to link sectors. The long route accumulates 2,400 m of elevation gain, with technical sections that demand good bike handling as much as fitness, while the short route is more accessible for those starting out in mountain gravel.

Part of the Spanish Cup

Being part of the Spanish Gravel Cup calendar raises La Indomable’s competitive level compared to other local cyclosportives, drawing both federated riders chasing points and cyclotourists who simply enjoy the challenge of finishing.

Berja and Las Alpujarras beyond the ride

Berja, in western Almería, is a gateway to Las Alpujarras, a region of terraced farmland, white villages and landscapes that combine mountains with Mediterranean proximity. The contrast between the coastal heat and the coolness of the Sierra Nevada peaks, visible along much of the route, is part of what makes the area special. Everything you need to prepare for this event, in one place.

La Indomable registration

The ride is part of the Spanish Gravel Cup, which draws a more competitive peloton than usual; registration is managed on the official website with two distances to choose from.

Tips

  • Since it counts toward the Spanish Cup, age categories fill up faster than in a regular cyclosportive

Where to stay for La Indomable

Berja, in western Almería, has a modest hotel offer; Roquetas de Mar and Almería city, less than 45 minutes away, offer more variety if you want more services.

Tips

  • If you're after an authentic Alpujarra atmosphere, the area's rural guesthouses are the most genuine option

Bike gear for La Indomable

With dirt tracks, trails and technical sections through Las Alpujarras, a wide-tire gravel bike or a full-suspension MTB are the safest choices.

Tips

  • Run at least 40mm gravel tires to better absorb the rocky sections

Gravel or MTB rental in Almería

Almería city has shops specializing in gravel and MTB that offer rental bikes with tires and gearing suited to the mixed terrain of Las Alpujarras.

Tips

  • Confirm the rental bike has gravel tires, not road tires

Technical clothing for La Indomable

In June, the heat already bites in western Almería from early morning, especially on the shadeless track sections through Las Alpujarras.

Tips

  • Choose a highly breathable jersey: June temperatures in Almería often top 30°C at midday

Nutrition for La Indomable

June heat in Almería raises hydration needs above what's typical for a 96 km ride; replacing salts matters as much as carbohydrates.

Tips

  • Add electrolytes to your bottle: Almería's June heat sharply increases electrolyte loss

How to get to Berja

Almería airport has domestic and some international connections, and is just over 30 minutes by car from Berja.

Car rental in Almería

Renting a car at Almería airport is the most convenient way to reach Berja with your bike and get around Las Alpujarras afterward.

Tips

  • Book ahead in June: it coincides with the start of high tourist season on the Almería coast

Sports insurance for La Indomable

As a Spanish Gravel Cup event, many federated riders race with a licence; non-federated riders need the organization's one-day insurance.

Tips

  • Check that your licence covers gravel events, not just road or MTB

Body care for La Indomable

June heat in Almería, combined with shadeless dirt sections, makes sun protection and skin hydration as important as in-race nutrition.

Tips

  • Apply sweat-resistant sunscreen before the start: the track sections offer almost no shade

Components for La Indomable

As a Spanish Gravel Cup event, many riders race with a power meter to pace themselves over the tougher 96 km distance, where going out too hard costs you on the final track sections.

Tips

  • Set realistic power zones for the long route: June heat cuts into your usual output

Sunglasses for La Indomable

The dirt track sections through Las Alpujarras kick up dust and offer almost no shade under the June sun; well-sealed sunglasses protect your eyes from both dust and light reflecting off the pale terrain.

Tips

  • Clean your lenses at every feed station: dust from the dirt sections builds up fast
