Marcha Cicloturista Pedro Delgado

Popularly known as La Perico, the Pedro Delgado cyclosportive is one of the classic dates on the Castilla y León calendar. Created in honour of the winner of the 1988 Tour and the 1985 and 1989 Vuelta, it climbs the passes of the Guadarrama range that shaped several generations of riders from Madrid and Segovia.

A route through the Central System

The event offers two distances. The long route, about 164 kilometres and 3,000 metres of climbing, links Navacerrada or Alto del León, La Morcuera, Canencia and the Cotos pass before dropping towards Segovia. The short one, about 119 kilometres, keeps the essence with less accumulated climbing.

Finish under the Aqueduct

The finish is in the historic centre of Segovia, at the foot of the Roman Aqueduct, one of the most impressive monuments on the peninsula. Crossing the line with that backdrop is one of the ride’s trademarks.

Segovia beyond the bike

The World Heritage old town of Segovia, the Alcázar and Castilian cuisine turn the weekend into a complete getaway. Discover more events in Castilla y León.

Your 360 Pack

Everything you need to prepare for this event, in one place.

Marcha Pedro Delgado registration

The event has a limited number of numbers and strong demand thanks to its route and Segovia finish. Registration is handled on the official website.

Tips

  • Register as soon as entries open
  • Check whether the entry includes insurance or you need a licence

Where to stay in Segovia

Segovia has plenty of hotels in the old town, ideal for walking to the start. As it is a tourist weekend, book with time to spare.

Tips

  • Choose lodging inside the walls to walk to the start
  • Segovia is half an hour from Madrid by high-speed train

Bike gear for the Guadarrama range

The descents off Navacerrada and Cotos are fast with wide bends, but the asphalt is not always perfect. Brakes and tyres in good condition make the difference.

Tips

  • Check your brake pads before the event
  • A radar rear light for the final open-road stretch into Segovia

Technical clothing for June in the Central System

The Cotos pass tops 1,800 metres and can be cold early on. Later the valley turns hot. Start ready for both.

Tips

  • A windproof gilet for the morning descents
  • Arm warmers you can remove without stopping

Nutrition for 164 kilometres of passes

The long route stacks up four significant passes. The key is to eat early and regularly so you reach Canencia and Cotos with energy.

Tips

  • Start eating in the first hour, before the first pass
  • Carry electrolytes if the valley turns hot

Gearing for La Morcuera and Cotos

La Morcuera from Miraflores has ramps around 10 per cent and Cotos is long and steady. A compact chainset with a wide cassette lets you climb seated and save your legs.

Tips

  • A wide cassette for the La Morcuera ramps
  • Watch your power on Navacerrada so you don't pay for it on Cotos

Sunglasses for the range

You alternate shaded forest with very exposed plateau sections. A photochromic or contrast lens helps with those light changes.

Tips

  • A contrast lens for the Valsaín pine forests

Sun protection and recovery

The final section across the Segovia plateau is very exposed to the sun. And with 3,000 metres of climbing, recovery in the following days matters.

Tips

  • Reapply sunscreen at the mid-route feed station

How to get to Segovia

Segovia is very well connected: half an hour by high-speed train from Madrid and just over an hour by car. The start and finish are in the historic centre.

Tips

  • If you come by train, check your service allows bikes
  • Park outside the old town on event day

Licence and insurance

As with any cyclosportive, you need a valid racing licence or the one-day insurance offered by the organisers at sign-up.

Tips

  • Racing licence or one-day insurance required
